Song
Some people go through notebooks; writing down their thoughts and ideas. I use a notepad file that just keeps on scrolling, seeming endless. I write down concepts I think up and find intriguing, ideas for songs and society, poems and free-written points. Most of all, are one liners. I like to write down concepts, because there’s no way I can remember them the next day. I’m a thinker. Whenever I’m uninspired, I have an endless source to scroll through.
“Wintertime” was written from the following concept that I found during a time of cooldown in my life:
Winter is good for the soul
crops frozen, all your physicals on pause.
Work, frozen solid.
I felt like life has unexpected cycles, and that life is given in different forms. One being where all your works are stopped and you are given time-stilled moments to see your life existentially. It’s not the season in your life, but your focus in life generally.
Something that makes a person “real” is if one can be honest with him/herself about how one truly is. Don’t be afraid to stop and observe. You have been given everything needed to be the right person with yourself. Don’t be afraid to change for the better.
Music
Recorded on the 17th of August 2012 as guitar and vocal on the same track, the song never changed from it’s original composition 3 months prior. I remember multitracking another guitar quickly, and ending up spending a lot of editing time on the solo ending – which came out as a pleasant surprise. Revisited in 2016, I spent a good 8 hours adding the drum and bass to transform it with a whole new groove that I’m very happy with. Along with the rest of the album I spent a lot of time sonically perfecting it and learning music production further, and in this and a few other tracks if you listen closely you can hear a wind-like effect that I think gives it the ambient atmospheric environment it craves.
I hope that you enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed creating it. 🙂
Share it please, and until next time!
